A very wide Appennines portrait

Hi all,

Find here my latest and widest shot showing the sunset on the Appennines
-from Cassini down to Eratostenes- and lot of jewels setted anywhere on
the eastern side of the mare Imbrium.
Fair seeing as always with the first two shots composed as planned, the
bottom shot with Eratostenes area was taken an half an hour later with a
fairly good seeing and added to the scene with no preliminary plan!

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/eastern-imbrium20071003_lazz.jpg

Much to say and to study here!
On particular, my attention was caught by the very wide and smooth
dorsae (?) which begins from Theaetetus (the big crater south of
Cassini) and runs northward parallel to the Caucasus mountains. I never
noticed it before!

Enjoy with this 12 Mpixel sized mosaic at the full resolution, no more
image will come from me.
My HDD is now empty.

From Tycho to Clavius

Hi all,

Second image out of the 3 composed over that session.

Given the 15 minutes recording time difference between the 2 images
(making shadows stretching in the lunar ground), the changing seeing and
the changing contrast due to the Sun rising over my site, this was all
but an easy montage!
But there is nothing better than getting rid of all such problems!

Deslandres, Regiomontanus and Walter

Subject: moon

Ciao,

Il 3 ottobre ho registrato la mia ultima sessione di riprese lunari, da
quel giorno nulla più.

Seeing stabilmente discreto con alcuni buoni momenti verso l’alba.
Questa è stata la prima ripresa:

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/deslandres-regiomontanus-walter20071003_lazz.jpg

Da notare la presenza dentro Regiomontanus (in alto) del cratere più
“vulcanico” che ci sia sulla Luna!

Alle prossime.

Hi all,

My last hires lunar session recorded on Oct. 3rd was my latest one so
far. No new image from then.
I had some steadily fair seeing over that late night peaking to good at
dawn.
This was my first shot grabbed:

To be noticed the weird volcanic-like crater inside Regiomontanus on the
top of the image!

The old uncle Clavius & sons

Subject: moon

Hi all,

It has spent a lot of time since my last visit to uncle Clavius and on
Oct. 2nd I had a visit because nicely illuminated.
The rising sun steadied a bit as always the atmosphere, but I had to
fight against the bright sky eating the tonal range.

Licetus, Stofler and Maurolycus area

Subject: moon

Hi all,

Here another image from Oct. 2nd session, the most degraded by the
turbulence. You may want to know I could easily count up to 4 areas *in
the same frame* featuring very different qualities - from amorphous to
sharp! Hence, I spent a very hard time when processing…

SE lunar sector again

Subject: moon

Hi all,

To make definitively justice with this rarely imaged area, I captured
again the lunar SE sector 24 hrs apart from my early image.

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/southeastern20071002_lazz.jpg

The big crater in the bottom-left corner is Curtius.
Please, notice the odd craterlet chain inside Jacobi crater (a while
above the center of the image) looking like the ‘bouncing path’ of a
rolling stone.

Another odd feature can be seen as a long slit/valley starting from
Pentland DA crater (the double crater placed at 1 o’ clock respect
Pentland) and running on the right toward the darkness.
Other similar valley are also seen.
As a reference with names, you may want to use this LO image:

The unexplored SE lunar sector

Subject: moon

Hi all,

Here the last image out of Oct. 1st session.

This is almost an unexplored area by imagers -myself included till now-
and I made some justice. Even more, by considering I grabbed this area
also over the following night.
Craters’ names annoted here are those at the limb starting from the bottom.

Rupes Altai & Co.

Hi all,

Here another image out from Oct. 1st session.
Rupes Altai apart, to be noticed the rough dome close to Piccolomini and
the very last sun ray leaving Fracastorius (upper right corner) in the
darkness.

The image processing wasn’t ok, but right now it’s too late.

Theophilus, Cyrillus and Catharina

Subject: moon

Hi all,

Although on late, I’m now sending my last lunar images taken on Oct. 1
to 3 when I had 3 decent nights in a row. Just any better than fair as
usual…

To start, find here a common image of the Triade with some interesting
detail in the dark mare Nectaris thanks to Theophilus impact. Also, I
find intriguing the ghost crater Daguerre (far right side of the image)
and a possibly ghost twin crater just on the left. Or am I wrong?

The South Pole, Moretus side

Subject: moon

Hi all,

I can now add another slice of the Lunar South Pole to my collection:
the side close to Moretus.

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/southpole20070805_lazz.jpg

Because of the tall mountains (Leibnitz?) in the background making a
weird appearance to my eyes, my fantasy has worked out this “antarctic”
version:

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/antarctic_moon_1.5x.jpg

I’d like to know if someone else is also looking icebergs there…
Comments much appreciated! :-)
