Kepler - the lonely crater

Subject: moon

Hello,
After lonely mountains, find here the lonely crater Kepler.
To be honest, isn’t that lonely, but its huge appearance is such to take anything else into the background.
Please note on the far left the elusive rima Suess snaking into the darkness and the rima Milichius snaking at the opposite corner with some conspicuos dome visible despite the high sun angle.
On the bottom, find the rima Maestlin complex.

First Saturn of my season

Hello,
Because late is better than never mind, I could finally take my very first Saturn image of the season a few nights ago.
This was also my first attempt with my new Gladius 400, but the focal lenght (roughly 14 meters!) was too far excessive for that night with low transparency and clouds everywhere. I couldn’t get it shorter before of the clouds rolling in…
As a consequence, the exposure was extremely slow (1/8th a sec!) and washed out some decent stability occurred on that night.
Manual hand picking of the frames.

Nothing to report on Saturn disc at these longitudes.

More to follow (not sure…).

Lonely mountains

Hello,
This image is displaying some lonely mountains dividing mare Imbrium (on the east side) from Oceanum Procellarium (on the west side).
Find Harbinger mons in the low-left corner, Delisle mons in the middle-right and the two Gruithuisen peaks on the top side.
The dark halo in the bottom-right corner is caused by dust.

Schiller & surroundings

Hello,
Looking a bit westward, we can find our friend Schiller sitting on the top-right edge of a possible ancient multi-ring basin 2 times bigger than Schiller itself!
Who knows whether this is an illusion or not…

From Clavius to Moretus

Subject: moon

Hello,
On Sept. 30 I had another lunar session under good to very good seeing at times and excellent transparency thanks to the 1200 meters elevation.
Sadly, that eve the Moon was quite low above the horizon (just 37 degs, close to Jupiter), quite far away from Earth (next to the apogee) and I also got a serious problem with the driver of my exp’l camera which caused some big problem with final resolution.
Find here a classical view of the South Pole from Clavius to Moretus under high sun angle.

Hello,
Find here my last image taken on August.
Mediocre seeing, expecially with the bottom frame.
Mare Humorum with a favourable libration:

Thin cirrus also on the Moon

Subject: moon

Greeting everybody,
Forgive my title which is quite self speaking about the neverending cloudy sky I’m experiencing here!
Let’s go ahead.

westernprocellarum20090815_0418_lazz.jpg

Cirrus there in the western shore of Procellarum should own to Olbers crater ejecta showned a couple of days ago. It’s too bad the 2 images couldn’t be composed together!
To be also noticed the Krafft catena “linking” craters Krafft (above) to Cardanus (bottom, partially visible).
The nice crater on the top-right corner is Seleucus while on its left we can see the big and half flooded Eddington crater.

Lunar Far West

Hi all,
Back to a lunar area portrayed with an unfamiliar illumination.
Here we can see the far western side of our satellite with Reiner gamma (on the right), Cavalerius (on the bottom-center) and Olbers (on the left) whose nice ejecta will be better visible along my next image with the northern part of the Oceanum Procellarium.

Notice that weird white river flowing out Reiner Gamma and crossing Marius Hills on the top-right corner of the image.
