Hi all,

On Dec. 28th I met my friend Nicola and we had a session on Mars with
his own Orion 250mm newtonian featuring optics which left something to
be desired.

Seeing mainly poor with a fair window lasted enough to grab the 3 RGB
streams. The small image scale allowed a fast exposure (1/30th sec.) and
a low noise (less than 10dB) to better freeze the turbulence. The Iris
drizzle (2X) worked beatifully indeed! I didn’t expect such a result!

But as always happens, the boring side is facing me whenever I grab Mars
under acceptable conditions. So, the B image is much more interesting
than R, you can see there the 3 lined up orographic clouds over
vulcanoes and the isolated Olympus cloud on the right.
Also, notice the completely dissolved NPH making the thiny NP with its
dark collar popping up nicely.

It has spent a lot of time since my last visit to uncle Clavius and on
Oct. 2nd I had a visit because nicely illuminated.
The rising sun steadied a bit as always the atmosphere, but I had to
fight against the bright sky eating the tonal range.

Hi all,

Here another image from Oct. 2nd session, the most degraded by the
turbulence. You may want to know I could easily count up to 4 areas *in
the same frame* featuring very different qualities - from amorphous to
sharp! Hence, I spent a very hard time when processing…

Hi all,

To make definitively justice with this rarely imaged area, I captured
again the lunar SE sector 24 hrs apart from my early image.

The big crater in the bottom-left corner is Curtius.
Please, notice the odd craterlet chain inside Jacobi crater (a while
above the center of the image) looking like the ‘bouncing path’ of a
rolling stone.

Another odd feature can be seen as a long slit/valley starting from
Pentland DA crater (the double crater placed at 1 o’ clock respect
Pentland) and running on the right toward the darkness.
Other similar valley are also seen.

Here the last image out of Oct. 1st session.

This is almost an unexplored area by imagers -myself included till now-
and I made some justice. Even more, by considering I grabbed this area
also over the following night.
Craters’ names annoted here are those at the limb starting from the bottom.

Hi all,

Here another image out from Oct. 1st session.
Rupes Altai apart, to be noticed the rough dome close to Piccolomini and
the very last sun ray leaving Fracastorius (upper right corner) in the
darkness.

Hi all,

Although on late, I’m now sending my last lunar images taken on Oct. 1
to 3 when I had 3 decent nights in a row. Just any better than fair as
usual…

To start, find here a common image of the Triade with some interesting
detail in the dark mare Nectaris thanks to Theophilus impact. Also, I
find intriguing the ghost crater Daguerre (far right side of the image)
and a possibly ghost twin crater just on the left. Or am I wrong?
