The South Pole

Subject: moon

Hi all,

Here’s my very last lunar shot, no more will follow.
Of course, I couldn’t miss the South Pole which is always fascinating
me, expecially in the Moretus-Curtius area (here pictured in the upper
side) where the Moon had a conspicuos bombing.
Rolling clouds stopped my recording to 550 frames only, but I could get
a nice result nonetheless.

Hope you had a pleasant trip all way around the Moon, I’ve now stopped
my activity until weather will have a consistently better cycle.

Hi all,

Find here a triade of craters nicely illuminated featuring 3 different
floors.

On the bottom-left corner, find Archimedes with its flat and peakless
floor;  on the top-right corner, find Aristillus with its flat floor and
nice central peak; on the bottom-right corner, find Autolycus with its
“vulcanic” floor.

On the top-left corner you can also see the Spitzbergen mons.

Hi all,

Here another image from Dec. 29 session.
After the rough area posted early, find here a smooth floor with the
majestic Bullialdus presence and the interesting domic area with Kies.

On the bottom of the image you can also see the Hesiodus rima and the
northernmost border of Pitatus.

Reinhold to Gambart rough area

Subject: moon

Hi all,

Over this week I’ll send my very last set of lunar images grabbed on
Dec. 29 under fair to good seeing. I was forced to stop my session when
the seeing locally peaked to good because of low clouds rolling on. I
lived a very frustrating time!! No more images by that night on.

To start, find here the rough area enclosed between Reinhold and Gambert
craters under a moderate sun angle.

Big Lakes at the feet of Appennines

Subject: moon

Hi all,

Find here the last shot grabbed on Dec. 27 session.

This rarely imaged zone is indeed very interesting, expecially the
bottom-left corner which features some dome (enhanced in the 2 panels)
westward of Manilius crater and several DHCs all way around this crater.
Notice the dark halo above Menelaus (the crater on the bottom-right
corner of the image) which looks like not generated by a crater as well.

Big Lakes here imaged, from the top-left corner to the bottom-right are:
FELICITATIS, ODII, DOLORIS, GAUDII, HIEMALIS and LENITATIS.

A nice Trio

Subject: moon

i all,

After the eclipse rush, I resume to send any remaining image from that
session.

Here’s pictured a nice trio of craters (Walter, Werner and Aliacensis)
still partially filled with shadow:

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/walter-werner-aliacensis20061227_lazz.jpg

In the recent past many people told I was surely kissed by good seeing
over my last lunar sessions.
Well, find here the proof this is not correct!
I cropped and compressed through the DivX codec a portion of the
original SEQ movie including Walter crater:

http://www.lazzarotti-hires.com/images/moon/walter_divx.avi

Be sure your software is running the original size of the video
(800×760) or you’ll miss the effective turbulence effect!

Hope this does clarify how about my usual conditions.
Other to come…

Hi all,

Find here at the same URL a nicely better revision of the same red moon
image I posted on yesterday late night after a quick and dirt processing.

A Big Red Moon

The sky cleared at the end!
After a 3 days and 3 nights of perfectly clouded sky, something didn’t
work fine with the cloud shop boy.

Myseld and my friend Nicola (AP130 tube owner) could enjoy with a
wonderful pancromatic eclipse, expecially a while before and after the
totality when some bluish tint was seen at the opposite limb.

The light fall during the maximum phase was conspicuos, I had some
problem with the exposure that couldn’t be short enough to freeze the
horrific seeing over that night.
Any way, I’m happy with the result. Colors reproduced here in this image
are finely matching true colors perceived at naked eye.
Comments welcome about this point of view!

I’ve 2 more sequences: if interesting as well, I’ll post later
