Tycho, Oct. 13

Hi all,

On Oct. 13 I had a so-so morning, but I could process a couple of shots
only.

Here’s the machine gunner Tycho with its interesting crater chain
expanding toward 11 o’clock and a countless deal of shots on its right side.

10 Mpixel of Appennines!

Subject: moon

Hi all,

This is my latest mosaic-marathon, my widest ever at such resolution!

But I’m not so happy both with the resolution and the tonal range. Too
many problems with a correct balancement of such different areas. But I
learned my lesson, on the next time I’ll know how to get rid of that.
I’ll be back there as soon I’ll have a good condition to give the
Appennines my definitive portrait. I love so much this zone as well as
our italian Appennines mountains!

I consider this shot as a screen test:

Be aware, it’s a 10 Mpixel wide shot. Make sure your browser is
displaying the 100% size.

Thank you for your viewing.

A wide Rupes Altai

Subject: moon

Hi all,

On Oct. 10-12 I had a trip on the marvellous southern Tuscany (Maremma)
and I was accomodated in a beatiful villa located at the top of an hill!

Look at here: http://www.villatatti.it/home.htm

They even care of astro amateurs(!) so I brought my scope with myself to
take some lunar pics.
I hotly suggest to book there if you plan a visit on Tuscany!

Of course, it was everything beatiful but the seeing…
Ok, nothing new to hear from me.

Find here a wide shot of the Rupes Altai taken in very variable
conditions and high clouds rolling on. I attach an image where you can
see both the best and the worst frames to make your evaluation even
clearer. Most of the frames did match with the worst one, only 100 out
of 2000 were matching the best one! :-(
The glowing Sun (4 to 5 degrees above the horizon) made the situation
definitively critical.

A walk from Tycho to Clavius

Hi all,

This is the last mosaic from Sept. 13 session, the most painful of all.
First, the 3 streams were recorded on daylight; MAP and double pass of
Distor were used, hand picked frames for the stacking!

I wasn’t familiar with the crater chain starting from Tycho and
expanding toward 11 o’clock direction. I also imaged that 1 week ago
with the same lunar phase.

My first Saturn

Hi all,

Despite the pinkish high clouds brightened by the incoming Sun, I forced
my first Saturn image recording on this apparition.
Seeing poor as from the new standard here.

Let’s hope in some miracle before I get 100% crazy.

Purbach, Werner, Walter and Aliacensis

Hi all,

Here another mosaic, same conditions as with my prior image. The
incoming dusk made the tonal range a little poor and not so natural looking.

Stofler, Maurolycus, Heraclitus and others

Subject: moon

Hi all,

On Sept. 13 I had another poor session with some spell of fair seeing
when the Sun reached the horizon. So, any image captured exibits a not
so good greyscale.

Here’s the first out of three mosaics. A 130X resample was done.

Hi all,

That’s the last image acquired in my Sept. 12 session.
Can you count any dome there? :-)

My sleep deprivation caused the loss of 1 piece (image) of the mosaic,
sorry for the inconvenience…

Mare Nectaris, western side

Hi all,

Here an image recorded under average conditions showing the western side
of the Nectaris Mare under grazing light. The “debris texture” caused by
Theophilus is nicely on evidence.
